New sink and faucet - husband broke the other one when removing it from the old sink. It has a pull out sprayer and a soap dispenser. ![](http://fbcdn-photos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/424451_2604105996448_1668824686_31863173_2053139489_a.jpg) Picture is kind of small - I'll have to upload a larger one later.

It looks so much better! So much brighter & fresh looking! What brand of paint did you use? Was it the Martha Stewart kind or this other brand (I forgot which) that Home Depot sells? A 2 or 3 step process? My mom is debating painting her cabinets or just replacing them; I'm trying to talk her into just painting them.

Mermaid,
The cabinets were already painted with I don't know what, so we sanded the shine off.
Then, I primed with Kilz2 and painted with Olympic high gloss white Acrylic Latex Enamel. I painted the edges with a Wooster brush (a really good brand brush) and did the big areas with a paint pad.
I tried rolling the big areas with a foam roller, but didn't like the finish I was getting with it.
If I wasn't working a few days a week, it probably would have been done now. I work on the kitchen on Wednesdays, Fridays and the weekend. I only paint until I run out of what I poured in one tray.
I think it looks brighter due to the new lighting. Before, there was a ceiling fan with 3 60W soft white bulbs.
Now, there's a ceiling flushmount fixture with 2 26W CFL bright white quad tube bulbs in the main area and the same fixture, only smaller, where we cut back the wall, with 2 18W.
It's like daylight in the kitchen at night!

If you don't mind my asking, how much has it cost you so far for the counters/cabinets/sink? We are going to be redo-ing our kitchen the same way (paint cabinets with new counter).

Countertops were $800 installed, but that included the bevel edge on the countertop, 2 new cabinet doors over the range, on site sink cut-out and the side cabinet panel for the dishwasher. The countertop on the sink side of the kitchen is a small "L" shape and is almost 12 ft long. The other counter top is just over 6 ft long. The countertops also are seamless, so I paid a little more for a 12 ft long vs the standard 8 or 10 ft piece of formica. (the counters are Formica brand)
Sink was $88 and faucet was another $100. I think the new drain kit was $25, plus misc. PVC fittings to install.
New hinges/knobs/pulls were $200ish. (I needed 27 knobs, 6 drawer pulls and 26 sets of hinges) About another $200 for paint & supplies(1 gal of wall paint, 1 gal of trim paint, 5gal of KILZ for priming and painting the ceiling- I always keep KILZ around the house for various painting projects and roller covers, etc.).
If you decide to go with new knobs, etc, look in the stores, even kitchen & bath places and find what you like. Get the brand and collection name. Don't worry about the price for the "designer" knobs. You WILL have sticker shockin the stores! Then, come home and google it. You'll find the knobs/pulls cheaper online, unless you go with "builder choice" knobs, which will be the same price online as in the stores.

it looks so much brighter and happier ...yes i know that sounds weird as a kitchen can not be happy but it looks like it would make me happy to walk in it. great job! we just painted our kitchen (well, we had someone paint it for us lol!) and we will be putting tile down in the next week or two ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I was absolutely miserable in my kitchen. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) I HATED it. It's the first room I enter when I come in the house and it was a shambles. I LOVE the bright light vs the soft light. Today we're fighting with the installation of the two new doors on the cabinet over the microwave. So far, the doors are winning. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

Almost there! Still need to put the base moulding and quarter round on the floor and put up the outlet covers. ![](http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/427887_2809950502432_1668824686_31952746_1707305471_n.jpg) ![](http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/559029_2638490656043_1668824686_31877186_1247990367_n.jpg)
