I'm on phase one of the kitchen... I stripped the wallpaper on Saturday. Went to Lowe's on Sunday to get an estimate on new countertops. Came home and had husband remove the counter backsplash so the walls could get spackled/smoothed out. Husband did the spackling on Sunday night... I re-spackled this morning. I fixed the two chips I had on the stove. I ordered new cabinet hinges (I need 24 pairs! ) knobs (25) and 6 drawer pulls. We've decided to just do cosmetic updating instead of an entire remodel of the kitchen. Pictures to follow...

That's my dishwasher! ;D
It's a portable that's hard plumbed to the sink.
It's a convertible model (goes from portable to under the counter), so husband needs to wire for under the counter mount.
The butcher block on top will get taken off and new countertop will go over it and a side cabinet panel will be installed.
A range hood will be installed where the toaster oven on the shelf is/was.
I removed the shelf this morning! Wait till husband comes home to see that! LOL

What counter tops are you getting? Did they have any that were already on the floor that would fit? You painting your cabinets? Can't wait to see the finished project!

OMG! I forgot some of you are youngsters and have no idea what a land line is! ;D I'm old school and just can't give it up... I should take a pic of Mom's land line phone in her garage... It's harvest gold and has a rotary dial on it. (It's probably older than most of you! HA!) Yes, we will be re-painting the cabinets. I'm sticking with white and going for a high gloss on the cabinets. Now, I'm thinking of an over the range microwave w/fan instead of the range hood... No go on the stock countertops. The straight countertop w/o the sink is 75 inches - on the floor countertops are 72 inches. We're going with laminate with a waterfall edge (instead of the square edge that's on the counter now, the top edge will be rounded). The laminate I'm thinking about looks like soapstone.

I was wondering how it would look if you painted the little ridges in your cabinets a little darker. Microwave is so much better than the range hood! Do you have an outlet up there? That looks like quite a high space over your stove, how will you fit that in without having to hang it too high? Just cut the shelves off?
Soapstone.... that's greyish right? You could do a really cool tile backsplash that would look awesome.

The top shelf will stay (or get moved up or lowered so it sits on top of the microwave sleeve). The microwave bottom will be level with the bottom of the cabinet next to the range. I removed the bottom shelf this morning. I left the wallpaper on top of the cabinets. It was in very good shape and will match nicely with the wall color, which will be the same color as the top half of the dining room wall, through the doorway next to the stove. More pics coming shortly!

Oh, and yes soapstone is a medium gray color.
Husband will have to run a line for either the range hood or microwave.

We'll be re-using the faucet, may replace sink to a "big bowl/little bowl" sink. It would be a full size sink with a small narrow part for the disposal.
