I say take it all down I like how you did it removing back to flush with the fridge. Looks good! I really want husband to take the rest of the wall down, back to where we cut it back... We now have an "L"... When you stand straight in front of the wall, you can't see the fridge.

Yeah open that up all the way he'll just have to be careful with the electrical. Unless you plan on putting a little counter on there for setting things I would just open it all up Looks good though! I definintly like "L" better than "C".

The electrical is all exposed. He just needs to move the box over about 12 inches and tack it to the beam that's inside the wall.
I think he's going to go for it. We have enough oak laminate flooring left from when we did the boys' bedrooms, hallway to the bedrooms and the front foyer, to do the kitchen.
He brought a bunch of pieces out tonight and placed them in the kitchen to get an idea what it would look like.
Currently, the floor is a pickled oak laminate (has a pinkish cast to it.)
I told him if he wants to re-do the floor, then he has to take the rest of the wall down! LOL

And the rest of the wall has come down! Already put drywall on the ceiling. Sub-flooring will need to be patched and the random heatin & A/C register will be removed.

Oh, and since husband was so nice to take down the wall, I took the wallpaper down off the soffits...
It's now BLUE over the cabinets. I'm loving this! (no, I didn't paint blue, that's what was under the wallpaper.) The boys are afraid to leave the house.
Yesterday oldest left to take his SAT and then go to a baseball clinic. The wall was totally intact. Last night, the wall was cut out in the "C" shape when he went to bed. He woke up this morning to the "L" shape, left the house for his baseballclinic and came home to the rest of the wall removed.
Same thing with youngest - he went to my mother's yesterday before the demolition started.
Can't wait to rip up the floor, but that will wait until the A/C guy can get here to pull the 2 random registers in the floor.
I'm going to start prepping the walls. The shortened wall will get rough finished next weekend when husband is off from work again.

First coat of drywall mud applied: We had a slight delay this morning - guy came to put down the new vapor barrier in the crawl space. I didn't think that was getting done for a few weeks, but he showed up at 8am, so under the house he went! Husband is off to Lowe's this morning to get the caps to block off the two lines for the registers. And the floor is gone! 70's Vinyl anyone? ;D Moving right along!

Okay, I think I'm losing my mind! Today, after ripping up the floor, I decided to run whatever floor I select, through the doorway into the dining room. In one of the previous pictures, you can see the doorway and a small part of the dining room. I like this floor: It's a really heavy laminate that looks like 12 x 12 stone tiles... I'm going to check at two local floor places this week and see what they have. We are going to do the installation ourselves.

That's like what we did our kitchen and dining room in nc with, the heavy laminate tiles. Looked fantastic and absorbs shock.
We replaced our old linoleum for the tenants, it was terribly scuffed.

Where did you buy your floor, Skooch?
Did you put it down yourself?
We've done laminate ourselves before, so, no problem doing this project!

Went to Lowe's this morning to buy a box each of the two floors we were trying to decide on. I got such a friggin' deal! Someone opened & returned 8 boxes (the amount I needed for the kitchen) of the lighter of the two (a pic is posted above^^) and they were marked down to $26 a box, versus $45 for the closed boxes. I jumped right on those babies and bought enough to do the dining room at the same time! I used my Lowe's card and got 6 months interest free financing - I just love using other people's money. I ordered an over the range microwave and a new dishwasher this morning at Best Buy. They gave me 18 months interest free. Here's an upclose pic of the flooring. It's Swiftlock brand, Tuscany Stone laminate.

Ours were like $32 a box I believe. We also did the glue even though it said self adhesive since it was going on concrete. It looked really good once it was done. It was a dark rust color with lots of cream and green marbling. Wish I had been able to enjoy it, it wasn't finished until the day before we left. I think it took a total of 10 hours to do it all.

Oh and we had like 3 extra boxes so we can replace any that get messed up.
