So Lily has had a runny nose for over a week (allergies) and just started to get a cough. She is taking Allegra for kids. Should I take her back to the doctor? I am sooooo tired of having a snot nose kid.

If the snot is a yellow or clear I wouldn't be too concerned. Just carry tissues all over the place. If it is green, take her in. Try to get her to drink a lot of water. They do have claritin for kids and there is a prescription too but I can't think of what it is if you want to see if a change in meds would work.

What Mo said. How long has she been on the Allegra? Does she act like her back hurts at all? She might need to change to Zyrtec or Claritin if it's been more than a week and there's been no improvement.

I have some 24hr Claritin I used with B when he had that same thing going on about 2 weeks ago. Worked really well to help clear up the allergies and it's non-drowsy

Zyrtec. That's the one I was thinking. They always give my kids that.

Could she be teething?
My boys would ALWAYS get a snotty nose and have diarrhea when they were teething - even with their 5 yr old molars.

Took her to the doctor. She has a double ear infection. Whomp whomp. They gave her ammoxcacillian. (sp?) hopefully it will get rid of anything else she may have.

I think that Kellan might have an ear infection. He's been a brat and swatting at his ears lately. I'm SO glad Karlie got tubes put in her ears.

To help prevent infections (after you are sure they no longer have an ear infection only) try the following: My pediatrician when I was a kid told my mom to put 1 tsp of white table vinegar in each ear after bathing, swimming, etc. Have them lay down on one side, pour it in & let it sit for a few minutes. Then repeat on the other side. Or make up a small batch of the following & put in a few drops in each ear: 50% vinegar 40% rubbing alcohol 10% hydrogen peroxide That's the recipe for swimmer's ear drops. I've always used it after swimming/diving.
