They are talking about this on the other board and I'm curious if anyone on here has issues with them too. They totally stalk my mailbox area so I have to rush in and get my mail super fast lol. Maybe they have a next nearby. I also can't go in my back yard without at least half a dozen buzzing around me. I don't engage them I just try to ignore them but damn. Between them and the wasps my back yard is like a combat zone lol. I have looked for nests but have had no luck They totally chased my cat into the house last week, now that was kinda funny.

Does wasp spray work on bees? I'd try that.

I've heard that it does but these things are big and fast and I probably would end up spraying myself!!!

They're not bumble bees - they're boring/wood bees and they make holes in wood and then bore tunnels inside.
They won't bother you.

Really? Why do they buzz around all of the tree blossoms? Are they there for the tree wood or what? They are just so annoying lol. And how can you tell them apart?

The boring/wood bees aren't as "furry" as the bumble bees and they're also bigger.
They're rear section is shiny black.
Plus, we don't have bumble bees in this area. Scientists who track them, haven't seen them in Eastern NC in years. They don't know why the decline.
Boring bees still use pollen. They don't eat the wood for food, they make holes and nest in them.

Nope. I have a few flying around my deck, but since we stained it with solid stain, they don't like it anymore.
Husband has been known to find a bore hole and fill it in with caulk!LOL I told him they would just bore their way out. hehehe.
2 or 3 years ago, there was a swarm( group/flock?) of them that tore through 4-5 mailbox posts on my street. It was the weirdest thing. Some of these posts have been here since the homes were built in the 70's.

Are the trees blooming? If so they are just after the nectar.
I usually have so much blooming in my yard even the wasps are too drunk to bother me or the dogs at all.

I have wasps honey bees and wood bees. I hate honey bees but wont kill them because i buy local honey wood bees i ignore and the wasps die. Oh and i have yellow jackets randomly. The stinging bugs just looove my tiny yard. I had wasps trying to nest between my backdoor and screen. I decapitated one perfectly with the door and the other got the spray. Im mildly allergic to wasps. I swell a little more than normal and their stings feel like pulsing fire for hours. Aside from the honey, i try not to kill bees because a lot of the populations have dwindled in recent years.
