Yep, I got a front loader finally, and now DH is making the spot for our washer and dryer bigger. LOL, He said it would fit. I said it wouldn't. It goes into the spot but the doors wont open enough. ;D Silly man should have listened to me.

I'm on the fence about front loaders.
I've heard about problems with mold/mildew growing from keeping the door closed and the washer not drying out. I even saw some type of cleaner for front loaders in the laundry soap aisle. I didn't read the bottle for directions, but that makes me hesitant.
Report back in a few months and let me know if you have any issues.

Yay! I have front loaders. I clean it out every other week, simetimes less, I use cleaning packets. I leave the washer door open after I use it, too. I've never had a mildew issue or an issue with the clothes not being dry.

Ok I have no idea how they work. I have to use special HE detergent don't I? My dryer has an awesome sensor on it though that senses how wet the clothes are. How awesome is that?! No more having it run, shut off, starting it again, checking to see if the clothes are dry yet. I'm in love and I've only dried clothes in it once. Our laundry area is tucked in a closet, it's a decent size space but the doors were only 48 inches total and the doors wouldn't open up all the way. So DH has to make the 48 inch space a 60 inch space. He's about half done and it'll be done tomorrow. I'll be glad to get my kitchen put back together. And I have some people interested in my old washer and dryer too. Yay

Yep, HE detergent. You can use those Purex laundry sheets, too.
I'm glad you like them!

And if you like those purex crystals or downy unstoppables, they are fine in the washer.
We have had out front loads for a little over a year now and don't have any issues. I've used the wrong detergent here and there and it was fine but I don't make it a habit. I bought the wrong one once and if I run out of the right kind I just use that bottle until I get to the store. No mold/mildew smell. I haven't used a special cleaner but we have to bleach my husband's gi all the time and when that happens the whole washer smells like bleach and its all clean.

In the manual it said that if you don't use the HE detergent that it can cause the mold and mildew. So far DH cut the hole in the wall bigger, re-framed it, put new sheet rock up and mudded it. He still has to sand, texture and paint it but that's not a big deal. Pretty much the hardest part is already done. My kitchen is a mess but we cleaned it up as much as we could while we wait for the mud to dry. I can't wait until it's finished tomorrow.

A tip for drywall mudding finishing - instead of sanding, use a damp sponge and a bucket of water to blend the mud and the wall - NO MESS!
Wipe from new mud to drywall, using a circular motion where mud meets wall to blend.

I use regular natural or free & clear detergents and we haven't had any mold or mildew problems. My washer has a "Clean Washer" setting that I run once a week with some Borax in the tub. We leave the washer door open whenever possible, too, to let it air out. We use cloth diapers, so I try to minimize the chances of it getting funky in there.

I just saw that Gain now has the little laundry additives. I haven't seen them in store though. I love the smell of Gain, can't wait to try them.
MIL & my sister complains that their front loader doesn't get the clothes clean enough but who knows. I've used both of them and never noticed a problem. MIL swears that her whites aren't as white unless she runs them twice.
