These are a few clips from our night dive when we lived in Hawaii. The sound is off because I used different sections. My husband is the one with the red striped hood and I am to the right of him with the flowing hair, thanks to a broken hair tie.

Way cool, was it trying to eat the bubbles?
Dh wants to dive off Maui on our next trip, I'm going to stick with snorkeling!

To get an idea of the size, if I remember correctly, this one had somewhere in the neighborhood of a 9-10 foot wing span.

AHhhhhhh so jealous! I've done over 3,000 dives and I have NEVER seen a manta ray free swimming! Very cool!

. The guy that videotaped it said he'd done that dive around 800 times and that was the first time he'd seen a shark on that dive. It was really breathtaking to have the manta ray just swimming back and forth over us. It was there for about 20 minutes and left when the shark showed up.

That is so wild about the manta! I've seen a LOT of sharks, but never a manta. One time we heard reports that there was a manta just off shore around the reef at a beach in Okinawa. We hurried up & suited up, got out there and nope. It wasn't a manta ray, but a manta rock. lmao It was a flat section of the reef w/ two arched areas about 10' apart that jutted upwards & in the surf it looked like it had wings that flapped. lmao That was the joke for years w/ our friends telling them to hurry up to see the manta.
Your video is awesome though! That had to be so amazing! I have always wanted to see one; I think they're beautiful! I've seen some pretty wild things including a sun fish in Pensacola, whales, sharks, etc but I have always longed to see a manta ray. AMAZING!

I was nervous as hell but I sucked it up. My husband got certified in 1986 in FL so he's an old pro at it. I will not dive with anyone else unless he's there. This dive was on the Kona side of the Big Island at Keauhou Bay.
