Prorated Imminent Danger Pay starts this month By Andrew Tilghman - Staff writer Posted : Thursday Feb 2, 2012 10:47:34 EST Starting this month, some troops will begin receiving less Imminent Danger Pay when a new policy takes effect that will prorate the standard $225 monthly IDP stipend. Under the new policy, troops will be paid only for the actual days they spend in the danger pay location, defense officials said Thursday. Under the previous policy, troops who spent any portion of the month in a danger pay location received danger pay for the entire month. The proration amounts to $7.50 per day. So, for example, if a service member spends only 7 days of the month in Afghanistan, he or she will have only $52.50 in Imminent Danger Pay added to their paycheck. Exceptions will be made for troops who are “exposed to a hostile fire incident”, regardless of location. They will receive the full monthly amount of $225. The change was mandated by Congress as a part of the 2012 budget, and the Pentagon announced the implementation of the new rules on Thursday. www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/2012/02/military-prorated-imminent-danger-pay-starts-this-month-020212w/

I see a lot of peoples pay being messed up. I guess a lot of people won't be making bank on deployments anymore.

The only reason I posted this because this girl on my FB posted it and had a coronary about it. She blamed Obama of course but Congress makes the budget not Obama.

It equals out to more if you're actually in country for the month so I don't see an issue with it overall. Really only affects the first/last month they deploy from getting a set rate. Now, if they start messing with tax free pay then I'll have an issue.

www.socnet.com/archive/index.php/t-103348.htmlIt's not Obama, it came from the Senate as early as last July. It's only going to mess people up who count on 225.00 a month when their spouse was only IN a designated danger zone for let's say 7 days, instead of 30. It should only affect the first month and last month most people are deployed, a MEU won't get the pay until they actually sail into a designated hostile area now, instead of as soon as they set foot on the ship in Norfolk or San Diego. ALL of Afghanistan is still included, most of the middle east and Persian Gulf are still included as hostile. Bahrain is even included and you can PCS your FAMILY over there if you are permanent personnel!!!

I got that in an email last week. I don't see the big issue with it either.

The problem is the Senate/military hasn't bothered EXPLAINING it beforehand.
If she's freaking out on losing $225.00 a month, she's got bigger issues!!!
They still gets family seps, no fed taxes, tax free combat leave days, some other pay that was like 100.00 for specific areas, keep all their BAS, and get a per diem.
How can you not make bank deployed to Afghanistan even without the imminent danger pay?
(I don't know what they rate on MEU's and when it all kicks in)

As I keep saying about this, why should a troop get paid for being in combat on days HE'S NOT IN COMBAT?! Some chick posted the same thing on the Military Wives Chatter page and blamed Obama. *eye roll*
I told her a great alternative to saving the money would be for them to raise the tricare prime premiums and put copays on everything. She hasn't responded yet.

They are talking about raising Tricare premiums for retirees. (if they haven't already)
They could go back to the way it was during Desert Storm, or early on during the first deployment from here to Afghanistan. That would really give them something to whine about.
