Pros and Cons please! Husband just got his orders yesterday. Now I have to decide if it's worth us moving there. With 4 kids (one graduates in 2 yrs) and 3 pets(would have to leave some behind) I don't know if it would be better to send him alone. We've already done a three tour in Okinawa so I'm not sure if I want to do another island tour.

The pets would be the be he only reason I would say no. Hawaii is nothing like what I've heard about Oki. You would have to quarantine the animals though and that's expensive. Other than hat Hawaii was wonderful and I would definitely go. I have never felt so great anywhere else I've ever lived.

If I had the opportunity to go back and live there, I would. We were there almost 5 years. I was dead set against going BUT once I got there, that changed. LOVED it.

Pros- great weather, beautiful beaches (stay away from Waikiki), lots of different foods if that's your thing, lots of stuff to do that doesn't cost a lot, island hopping, diving, surfing
Cons- if you are close with your family, it can be hard to be that far away, locals can be tough BUT keep an open mind and don't have that "I'm better than you because I'm military" attitude and you will be fine.

I came there and made friends with many locals from the beginning. It helped that I didn't live on base though cause our kids all played together and went to Kialua together. Once you are their friend you are family for life. They are awesome people.

I'd thoroughly check out the school system, especially with a high schooler.
But other than that, can you claim 10 dependents and take us all with you? LOL, just kidding.....sortof!

Take what you read about the schools with a grain of salt. Everyone told me they were horrible but I loved them. I was told they are two years behind but that wasn't true either.

We are stationed there now, well I'm kinda back home taking care of things but looks like I'll be headed back soon. I love it. The only con that really got to me was being so far away from family and it being so expensive to fly home. Other than that, it is paradise!
