I gave you karma Jodi. Mermaid, the spaghetti monster and zombie Easter are funny. My Christian friends get a kick out of it. It's called having a sense of humor. My one Methodist friend has a zombie Jesus T shirt. I'm tired of some Christians acting like they're being picked on, put down, whatever. Not unless you're the same kind of Christian as Rick Santorum, WBC, Cameron, etc. That's what the majority of people have a problem with. Not your normal everyday Christian.

Have no idea who said what...but I have always liked this in regards to many of the Christians I know personally. Granted I keep that circle small because they tend to irritate me more than anything. A Pagan In Hell A Pagan dies and, to his great surprise, he finds himself standing before some pearly gates. The Pagan asks, "Where am I?" Peter says, "You're at the gates of heaven." The Pagan says, "But I don't believe in heaven." Peter frowns at him. "You're one of those Pagans, aren't you?" "Yes. I believe I'm in the wrong place; I'm supposed to go to Summerland." Peter says, "Sorry. We took over Summerland, and it's temporarily closed for remodeling." "What should I do now?" Peter says, "Well, since we don't allow Pagans in heaven, you have to go to hell. Sorry. Just follow that path that leads downward and to the left." The Pagan walks down to hell, where the gates are standing open. He walks in and finds beautiful meadows, happy animals, and clear streams of water. He walks on in and begins exploring, and after a few minutes a courtly gentleman walks up to him and bows politely. "Hello, I'm Satan. You must be the guy that St. Peter phoned me about. Are you a Pagan?" "Yes, I am. What's going to happen now?" Satan says, "Well, the fishing's pretty good, if you enjoy that sort of thing. There's a little refreshment stand down the road. And I believe the Pagan meeting grounds are right over the next hill." Suddenly, a hole opens up in the sky above, and a yawning chasm opens directly underneath it. The stench of sulphur fills the air. Hundreds of screaming, tortured souls drop down into the flaming pit, which immediately closes up with a thud. The Pagan, hardly believing what he just saw, asks Satan, "And what was THAT " Satan rolls his eyes. "Oh, just ignore them. They're Christians; they wouldn't have it any other way."

I'm not defending her either. They both said stuff. They can both be wrong.
That being said I see a clear difference in Christian and the N word. I was the first one who made any remark about Christians to begin with. Is it right? No but to me it's not the same thing as using the N word. That word is a century(ies) old derogatory term used only to identify one racial group inferior to the rest. That was the ONLY purpose to that word. It's not like f*g or gay that once meant one thing and were turned into a derogatory term. She said something negative about Christians. Is she right for making any kind of blanket statement? No, I'll give you that but it's not that same as what blubbers said. It's not and I won't be convinced otherwise.

I think this whole thread is a big ole' bumblefuck and we need to just let it go and move on. This is the reason I NEVER get into politics or religion with people I'm friends with. You have your opinion and I'll have mine and we'll skip to the park holding hands and keep our opinions to ourselves. This thread self imploded so lets just leave the ashes where they lie and see what happens when the smoke clears.

Those are the people that most people refer to when they use Christian in a derogatory way. The thing is that word isnt specific to just those people. Some people use Muslim the exact same way. They refer to Muslims as if they are all terrorists. Its the same as any stereotype. Its going to offend all Christians not just the ones who put up a false front. Christians cant be open minded. They denounce science. They hate philosophy and free thinkers. They dont think things through they so what others tell them to. They hate those who go against their interpretation of the bible. Etc. You all dont think thats offensive or discriminatory? You dont think those stereotypes piss us off after a while? But its ok because when you turn Christian into a derogatory term you dont mean us. You mean those other Christians. Susie this isnt geared directly at you.

Im not saying they are equal but it is similar in a way. And that word wasnt always derogatory. Its been a little over a century that it has been used in such a way.

Not really, dh's family still uses the N word quite derogatorily, but yet they all claim to be "Christian".
FIL has even used the word Faggot many times in his discussions of homosexuality is wrong because the Bible says so. Yet, his step-grandaughter is gay and they talk quite a bit. I have no idea how he reconciles that in his own head.

I didnt mean it isnt used that way now i meant that a little over a century ago it wasnt like that. All Christians have vices and sin. They arent supposed to be perfect people. They are supposed to try to overcome theor sins and vices. It isnt fair to admonish someone for one opinion view or action automatically. My grandmother unfortunately still has a huge prejudice against other races. Shes also very much a Christian. Shes almost 90. When she was growing up thats how things were. She has come a long way learning acceptance and tolerance but to many she would still be a bigot. Is ot right of her to think that way of people? No. Is she perfect? No. But she has spent years overcoming the way she was raised and working on it. That doesnt make her a hypocrite. I truely dont think a lot of people understand our religion. So many people just stereotype us while crusading for equality of everyone. I dont understand how more people dont realizeu that they are being just as bad as those "Christians". *steps off soapbox*
